Aug. 21 (UPI) — Prior to his destination wedding in Italy, a Boston man faced a unique challenge when his dog decided to chew up his passport just a week before the big day. However, he was able to quickly resolve the issue with the help of the Boston Passport Agency.

Donato Frattaroli and his fiancee, Magda Mazri, visited Boston City Hall to complete their marriage forms ahead of their planned wedding on Aug. 31 in Italy.

Upon returning home, they were shocked to find that their dog, Chickie, also known as Chicken Cutlet, had destroyed Frattaroli’s passport. With only a week left until their flight, this unexpected incident put their wedding plans in jeopardy.

“Our incredibly adorable 1.5-year-old golden retriever seemed to have different plans for our wedding. She jumped onto the counter and decided that my passport was a great new toy,” said Frattaroli in an interview with the Boston Herald.

Frattaroli and Mazri sought assistance from Rep. Stephen Lynch and Sen. Ed Markey’s offices. Both officials quickly responded and offered to expedite the passport process.

Initially, Frattaroli was informed that the earliest available passport appointment was in Atlanta on Thursday, just one day before his flight. However, he managed to secure an emergency appointment at the Boston Passport Office on Monday morning.

Frattaroli expressed the importance of being present for the most significant day of his life and likened the situation to the classic “dog ate my homework” excuse, but with more significant consequences.

He expressed optimism that he would leave his appointment with a new passport, as reported in the Boston Herald.

Frattaroli later confirmed on Facebook that the situation had been resolved and everything was back on track for their wedding.
