Dodgers Acquire Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly from White Sox in Trade

July 28 (UPI) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have made an exciting trade with the Chicago White Sox, adding talented pitchers Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly to their roster.

Multiple sources confirmed the trade between the Dodgers and the White Sox. According to ESPN, USA Today Sports, the Dodgers will send outfielder Trayce Thompson and minor-league pitchers Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure to the White Sox in exchange for Lynn and Kelly.

Joe Kelly, aged 35, had a decent season with the White Sox, going 1-5 with a 4.97 ERA in 31 appearances. Known for his contributions to two World Series victories, Kelly has an overall career record of 52-37 and an ERA of 3.98.

Kelly previously played for the Dodgers from 2019 to 2021, as well as the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox. In 2024, he has a team option worth $9.5 million.

Lance Lynn, aged 36, had a challenging season with the White Sox, posting a 6-9 record and a 6.47 ERA in 21 starts. As a two-time All-Star, Lynn has a strong career record of 129-93 and an ERA of 3.71 over his 12-year career.

Prior to joining the White Sox, Lynn played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, and Texas Rangers. Lynn is set to become a free agent next season.

Nick Nastrini, aged 23, was regarded as the No. 9 prospect in the Dodgers organization. In 17 starts for the Class-AA Tulsa Drillers, Nastrini had a solid performance, going 5-3 with a 4.03 ERA.

Jordan Leasure, aged 24, also played for the Drillers, where he went 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA in 29 games.

Trayce Thompson, aged 32, had a challenging season with the Dodgers, hitting just .155 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in 36 games played.

With this trade, the Dodgers, currently holding a record of 58-43, are looking to strengthen their roster as they prepare to face the Cincinnati Reds (56-48) in a home game at 10:10 p.m. EDT on Friday. Meanwhile, the White Sox (41-63) will host the Cleveland Guardians (52-51) at 7:10 p.m. on Friday.
