Disney’s Marvel Films, Including Deadpool 3, Face Delays as Actors’ Strike Ends

Marvel Studios films like falling dominos: Captain America: Brave New World, originally set to release on July 26th, 2024, shifted to February 14th, 2025. Meanwhile, Blade has been pushed back to November 7th, 2025 from the same date, and Thunderbolts moved from December 20th, 2024 to July 25th, 2025.

As a result of these delays, Deadpool 3 stands as the only upcoming film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for next year, marking a significant change after years of multiple annual releases. Speculations arise about the potential impact of this film drought on audiences’ fading interest in the superhero genre.

Hollywood production schedules were thrown into chaos due to the strike by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) combined with the recently concluded Writers Guild of America strike. Marvel Studios’ upcoming films were at various stages of production before the strikes. Captain America: Brave New World had reportedly finished principle photography, leading to the speculation of it taking Deadpool 3’s spot. While Variety notes that production for Blade and Thunderbolts had not yet commenced.

Disney also announced the rescheduled release of its CGI Lion King prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, now set for December 20th, 2024 instead of July 5th. Additionally, Sony Pictures altered the release date of its third movie based on the Marvel character Venom from July 12th, 2024 to November 8th, 2024, as reported earlier this week.
