Jambalaya Jazz, an old-time New Orleans-style jazz band, will debut their performance on a floating raft on the Rivers of America at Disneyland this Friday. This temporary replacement comes as the park’s Fantasmic! show is currently on hiatus due to a prop fire during a previous performance.
According to park officials, the jazz performances will take place three times per night, starting at 7:35 p.m. and will eventually be accompanied by other entertainment offerings.
Traditionally, the band has performed during the day in the New Orleans Square area. However, for the floating raft shows, they will play “high-energy New Orleans tunes, along with other Disney favorites.”
“After their lively and engaging performances, visitors can enjoy ‘Wondrous Journeys’ until August 31st, or ‘Halloween Screams’ until October 31st. These shows feature state-of-the-art projection effects and dazzling fireworks on select nights, all viewed from the unique vantage point on the Rivers of America,” stated Disneyland officials.
Although Disneyland previously announced that Fantasmic! would be on pause at least until Labor Day, there have been no further updates regarding its potential return.
Fortunately, no one was injured when the show’s giant dragon prop caught fire in April. As a precaution, park officials temporarily suspended fire effects similar to those used in Fantasmic! at select shows worldwide.
The Anaheim Fire Department swiftly responded to the fire, ensuring the safe evacuation of all guests and cast members from Tom Sawyer Island.
Introduced in 1992 in Frontierland, Fantasmic! encompassed a spectacular display of fireworks, Disney characters, live actors, water effects, pyrotechnics, lasers, music, audio-animatronics, searchlights, decorated boat floats, and mist screen projections.
The show takes viewers into Mickey Mouse’s imagination as he battles various Disney villains, including the 45-foot-tall Maleficent in her dragon form.
This year has seen several changes at the Anaheim theme park. Recently, Disneyland officials announced the reopening of the Adventureland Treehouse, which has been closed since September 2021. The treehouse will feature a theme based on the 1812 novel “Swiss Family Robinson” and will tie in with an upcoming “Swiss Family Robinson” television show on Disney+.
In May, Splash Mountain, a flume ride associated with the controversial 1946 film “Song of the South,” closed permanently and underwent renovation to become an attraction based on the more contemporary film “The Princess and the Frog.”
