Disney CEO Bob Iger’s $33M mansion undergoes extensive renovations amidst ESPN layoffs

Disney CEO Bob Iger’s expansive Los Angeles estate is currently undergoing significant renovations, coinciding with ESPN’s recent shocking layoffs of several top on-air talent, sources have revealed. The estimated cost of the renovations is around $7 million, as calculated by The Post. Iger and his journalist wife, Willow Bay, purchased the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion in 1995 for $19.5 million, but over the years, they have invested millions more in expanding and updating the property, which spans over 2 acres of land and is located in Brentwood, a highly prestigious neighborhood. The main estate encompasses over 7,400 square feet and has undergone various renovations including re-plastering the swimming pool, constructing a new two-story stable to replace the old one, adding a one-story attached living quarter, and incorporating a new set of stairs, gates, and a two-story media room. Notably, the property now also features a detached covered patio and an expanded first and second floor with a large terrace. In 2018, Iger and Bay sold their luxurious Fifth Avenue apartment in New York City for $18.75 million. With an estimated net worth of about $700 million, according to Forbes, Iger is described as maintaining a “resort-like setting” with his estate, which includes a two-bedroom guest house, rolling lawns with breathtaking ocean and city views, a master suite with dual bathrooms, and separate office and gym areas. ESPN, the sports network owned by Disney and Hearst Communications, recently announced a round of layoffs that is set to include around 20 on-air personalities, including notable figures like Jeff Van Gundy, Max Kellerman, Keyshawn Johnson, Suzy Kolber, and Jalen Rose. This move is part of Disney CEO Bob Iger’s efforts to reduce spending at ESPN, saving the company tens of millions of dollars. The network has been facing financial challenges and has already undergone three previous rounds of layoffs, resulting in the elimination of 7,000 jobs.
