Discovering the Urgency to Isolate: My Desperate Search for Solitude

Brian Austin Green did not have a stroke. However, the former star of 90210 reveals that he experienced “stroke-like symptoms” for years and was confined to bed for three months. In an interview on the “Sex, Likes and Spray Tans” podcast with Cheryl Burke, the 50-year-old actor spoke about his ordeal. According to People, Green said, “I got to the point where I shuffled like I was a 90-year-old man. I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t read. I couldn’t write.” His speech was slurred, and he experienced such extreme brain fog that he reintroduced his best friend of 25 plus years to his own sister, whom they had both known for the same amount of time. Although there is still some mystery surrounding his condition, ABC News reports that Green was eventually diagnosed with vertigo and ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease, around ten years ago.

It appears that the combination of vertigo and ulcerative colitis led to these “stroke-like symptoms.” Green revealed that these neurological issues began after he experienced vertigo, and they persisted for four and a half years of his life. He admits to feeling so overwhelmed that he wanted to isolate himself from the world. However, he sought help through speech, physical, and occupational therapy to regain control of his breath and find a comfortable speaking voice. Stress and diet seemed to play a role in his symptoms, with Green highlighting the internal inflammation caused by gluten and dairy. Thankfully, he has made significant improvements in his health.

In addition to discussing his health challenges, Green appeared on the “Frosted Tips with Lance Bass” podcast, where he opened up about his initial struggles when his son Kassius came out as gay. He admitted that his son’s sexuality was initially unknown to him and that he had to make an effort to understand and accept it. Green emphasized that his son’s choices didn’t affect him in any negative way and that he fully supports him. According to US Weekly, Green’s vertigo prevented him from seeing Kassius during that time, and the situation was made worse by Kassius’ mother portraying Green as an absentee father. However, Green and his fiancée Sharna Burgess, a professional dancer from Dancing with the Stars, now have a better understanding and relationship with Kassius.
