Kraft Heinz is issuing a recall for over 83,000 cases of individually-wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices. The reason behind the recall is that part of the wrapper may stick to the slice, posing a choking hazard. The company, headquartered in Chicago and Pittsburgh, identified an issue with one of their wrapping machines that caused a thin strip of film to remain on the slice even after it was removed from the wrapper. According to the AP, Kraft Heinz has fixed the machine, but is recalling the affected products just to be safe.
Kraft Heinz decided to voluntarily recall the product after receiving several consumer complaints. While there have been six reported cases of gagging or choking, there have been no reports of injuries or serious health issues, according to Kraft Heinz. The recall applies to 16-ounce and 3-pound multipacks of Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product. The affected products have “Best When Used By” dates between January 2024.
