Discover the Vibrant ‘Zest for Life’: Top 10 Friendliest Irish Cities in Europe

Condé Nast Traveller has announced the winners of its prestigious Readers’ Choice Awards for 2023, including the list of Europe’s friendliest cities. According to the influential travel brand, the port town takes the top spot, with readers describing it as even friendlier than the capital. They praise its big personality, exciting culinary scene, abundance of coffee shops, galleries, museums, and iconic food market. This is just one of the categories in the Awards, which celebrate the readers’ favorite hotels, cruises, countries, cities, trains, airlines, spas, islands, and more.

Siena in Italy has been crowned Europe’s friendliest city for 2023. Visitors have described it as a pulsating city with medieval buildings and a lively café culture. Other cities making the list include Cork and Dublin in Ireland, Helsinki in Finland, Belgrade in Serbia, Malaga and San Sebastian in Spain, Dubrovnik in Croatia, Bucharest in Romania, and Ljubljana in Slovenia.

Ireland doesn’t just excel in the friendliest cities category, but it also takes home the title of Europe’s friendliest country, as well as being ranked as the ninth-friendliest country in the world. Numerous global reports have consistently praised the people of Ireland for their friendliness and warm welcome to visitors. Dublin, despite some negative narratives this summer, including incidents involving tourists, places third on the list of Europe’s friendliest cities. Condé Nast Traveller highlights Dublin’s ease with revelry, its lively nightlife, and its ability to seamlessly blend a zest for life with a nod to its radical history.

In addition to friendliness, Dublin also ranks as the fifth-best city in Europe, and Ireland claims the ninth spot on the list of the world’s friendliest countries. Notably, however, no Irish city is included in the global list of best cities, which is topped by Victoria in Canada.

The awards also recognize the top resorts in Europe, with Adare Manor, Ashford Castle, and The Europe among the prestigious winners. The voting process for this year’s awards involved thousands of readers from both the US and UK editions of Conde Nast Traveller, giving valuable insight into the travel preferences and destinations favored by its audience.

The magazine says that if 2022 marked the return to travel, 2023 was the year that priorities were recalibrated. Readers sought out real-life encounters, from off-grid wilderness escapes to well-connected urban luxury. The complete list of winners can be found in the November issue of Conde Nast Traveller or on their website at cntraveller.com/readers-choice-awards.
