Discover the Top 50 Best Bars of 2023: London Reigns Supreme, But ‘Sips’ of Barcelona Claims the Coveted First Place, Followed by NYC’s ‘Double Chicken Please’ at No. 2

Barcelona continues to hold the esteemed title of the World’s Best Bar for the second consecutive year. Sips, located in Barcelona’s Eixample neighborhood, has been crowned the winner of the 2023 World’s 50 Best Bars awards. London, on the other hand, dominates the list with five bars, the most of any city, including two in the top 10 – Connaught Bar (5th) and Tayer + Elementary (8th). Other notable UK bars on the list are Satan’s Whiskers (28th), A Bar with Shapes for a Name (35th), Scarfes Bar (41st), and Panda & Sons from Edinburgh (39th). New York also boasts three bars in the ranking, with Double Chicken Please taking the title of the second-best bar in the world and the Best Bar in America. Overstory (17th) and Katana Kitten (27th) from Manhattan also made the list. Miami’s Café La Trova (24th) and Jewel of the South in New Orleans (49th) round out the U.S. representation. Sydney’s Maybe Sammy (15th) has been named the Best Bar in Australasia for the fifth consecutive year, while Melbourne’s Caretaker’s Cottage debuts on the list at 23rd place. The awards ceremony, sponsored by Perrier, took place in Singapore and the results were determined by votes from The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, which consists of over 680 drinks experts including bartenders, consultants, writers, and specialists. Sips, with its elegant design and innovative techniques, offers a unique and immersive drinking experience that emphasizes human connection and hospitality. According to William Drew, Content Director of The World’s 50 Best Bars, Sips has demonstrated exceptional innovation and technical skill, making it a deserving recipient of the World’s Best Bar title. In addition to Sips, two other Spanish bars – Paradiso in Barcelona (formerly number one, now fourth) and Salmon Guru in Madrid (16th) – made the top 50. Italy has five bars on the list, including Drink Kong (21st) and Freni e Frizioni (33rd) in Rome, 1930 (42nd) in Milan, L’Antiquario (44th) in Naples, and Locale Firenze (46th) in Florence. Athens, Paris, and Berlin are also represented, with Line (12th), Baba Au Rum (25th), and The Clumsies (47th) making the cut. Alquímico in Cartagena retains its title as the Best Bar in South America and ranks ninth overall. Mexico City stands out with several notable bars, such as Handshake Speakeasy (3rd), Licorería Limantour (7th), Hanky Panky (22nd), and Baltra Bar (45th). Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo each have two bars on the list, with BKK Social Club (13th) in Bangkok taking the top spot for Best Bar in Asia. Dubai’s Mimi Kakushi (40th) is the newcomer on the list and has been named the Best Bar in the Middle East and Africa. William Drew commends the diversity of the global bar industry and hopes that this ranking will inspire cocktail enthusiasts worldwide to explore these exceptional bars.
