In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, Carla Bruni partnered with the Paris Breast Cancer Center to emphasize the significance of regular mammograms.
When Bruni was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, she underwent surgery, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy, which are standard treatments for the disease. Fortunately, her cancer was not aggressive.
She attributes the early detection of her cancer to her annual mammogram, which allowed her to receive timely treatment. Without it, she could have faced a mastectomy.
Bruni initially hesitated to go public with her health issues due to concerns of media sensationalism, but she decided to share her story to deliver an important message.
She emphasizes the importance of regular mammograms and urges women to prioritize their health by getting screened annually. Bruni states, “Your lives depend on it.”
In the United States, the Preventive Services Task Force recommends biennial mammograms for most women aged 50 and older. However, some women may choose to begin screening earlier based on their individual risk factors.
Alternatively, organizations like the American College of Radiology and the Society of Breast Imaging recommend annual mammograms for women starting at age 40.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, women with an increased risk of breast cancer should consult their healthcare providers about potentially starting mammography screening earlier, undergoing additional tests, or scheduling more frequent exams.
