Which way to the future?
Google Maps has exciting plans for artificial intelligence-infused enhancements aiming to improve trip planning and navigation for users.
Here are the five new AI-driven features that Google is rolling out for its users. Get ready to confidently plan and navigate your trips, make sustainable choices, and find quick inspiration for things to do, all with the help of these new features.
Immersive View
Users will have the ability to see a more detailed preview of their trips, whether they’re driving, walking, or cycling.
To access the Immersive View, all you have to do is select the directions you need and tap the preview to see your entire route in a multidimensional view, complete with visual turn-by-turn directions and a time slider to assist in planning your departure based on simulated traffic and weather conditions.
This feature is currently available for iOS and Android users planning trips in various cities, including Amsterdam, London, New York, and Tokyo.
Lens in Maps
Lens in Maps, formerly known as Search with Live View, utilizes AI and augmented reality (AR) to provide visual information about nearby ATMs, transit stations, restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. This feature is now available in over 50 new cities, including Austin, Rome, and Taipei, marking the biggest expansion of this feature yet.
Google Maps Navigation
Google Maps navigation will soon reflect the “real world” more accurately, thanks to AI. Expect enhanced colors, more realistic buildings, and updated lane details to assist in preparation for driving maneuvers on highways.
This update will be available soon in 12 countries, including the US, Canada, France, and Germany.
Electric Vehicle Charging Station Information
Electric vehicle drivers will have access to more information about charging stations, such as compatibility, charging speeds, and usage history, helping to avoid wasted time and disappointment. This update has already begun rolling out wherever EV charging station information is available.
Google Maps Search
Google Maps’ updated search feature will help users find inspiration in a whole new way, offering photo-first results based on analysis of billions of photos provided by the community in Google Maps. Users can also type in “things to do” to see a list of thematic results that they can save to explore later. This feature is rolling out globally within the coming weeks.
