Chicago’s dining scene has been shining brighter than ever with the announcement of esteemed Michelin stars in the city. The 2023 Michelin Guide recently honored restaurants in Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C., recognizing eateries consistently offering “outstanding cooking.”
International director of the Michelin Guides, Gwendal Poullennec, expressed, “These milestone announcements solidify these cities as some of the best places in the world to visit for culinary adventures.”
Earning Michelin stars, the most prestigious accolade in the culinary industry, involves anonymous reviewers assessing restaurants based on the quality of ingredients, flavor harmony, culinary techniques, the chef’s personality through their cuisine, and menu consistency over time.
In Chicago, the highly sought-after third Michelin star was awarded to Smyth in the West Loop, alongside one Michelin star for Atelier in Lincoln Square and Indienne in River North. Additionally, Logan Square’s Daisies received the Michelin Green star for its commitment to sustainable gastronomy.
The esteemed three-star status was shared by Smyth and Alinea, while Atelier and Indienne proudly celebrated their first Michelin stars. Daisies also made an impact with its local, sustainable cuisine, earning a Michelin Green Star.
Furthermore, the Michelin Guide recognized exceptional service, cocktails, and sommeliers at key Chicago restaurants, emphasizing the city’s thriving culinary culture.
Overall, the Michelin Guide now covers 154 restaurants in Chicago, showcasing a diverse range of cuisines and dining experiences, including exclusive three-star and two-star restaurants, as well as Bib Gourmands, characterized by good food at moderate prices.
