AWS has recently expanded its Amazon Transcribe product, introducing new languages and AI capabilities. The platform now offers AI-based transcription for 100 languages, making it a powerful tool for customers. During the AWS re: Invent event, the company announced that Amazon Transcribe has been enhanced to recognize more spoken languages and provide call transcription services.

In a blog post, AWS explained that Amazon Transcribe has been trained on a vast amount of audio data from over 100 languages, using self-supervised algorithms to learn speech patterns across different languages and accents. This ensures accurate transcription for lesser-used languages, as well as those that are spoken more frequently. In late 2022, Amazon Transcribe supported 79 languages and boasted an accuracy rate ranging from 20 percent to 50 percent across many languages.

Additionally, the platform offers automatic punctuation, custom vocabulary, language identification, and filters. It can recognize speech in both audio and video formats, even in noisy environments. AWS has also integrated generative AI models into its Call Analytics platform, which enhances accuracy and provides summary reports of interactions between agents and customers.

In the realm of AI-powered transcription services, AWS faces competitors such as Otter, which offers AI transcriptions and a summarization tool, and Meta, which is developing a generative AI-powered translation model that recognizes almost 100 spoken languages. Moreover, AWS has introduced new capabilities to its Amazon Personalization product, allowing clients to offer personalized recommendations to customers, similar to how streaming services suggest content based on user activity.

With the addition of Content Generation, Amazon Personalization now has the ability to generate thematic titles and email subject lines to align with recommendation lists. These combined improvements reflect AWS’s commitment to providing advanced, user-friendly AI services.
