Discover the Alarming Incident: 9 Indio Middle School Students Released from Hospital due to Stomach Issues

Nine students from Indio Middle School who were hospitalized due to stomach issues after ingesting an unidentified substance have been discharged and are in good health, according to school officials on Friday.

Mary Perry, the public information officer for the Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD), expressed gratitude to the community for their concern and stated that the students were released on Thursday evening.

“DSUSD is grateful for the community’s support and concern for our students who were taken to the hospitals yesterday following their reaction to an unknown substance they consumed. Please note that the substance consumed was not provided by the school,” Perry stated.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the DSUSD security team in partnership with the Indio Police Department, Perry said.

According to Ben Guitron, public information officer for the Indio Police Department, officers and firefighters responded to a call at 1:20 p.m. on Thursday at Indio Middle School (81-195 Miles Ave.) where nine students complained of stomach issues.

“When we arrived, it appeared that they might have ingested a non-school food item,” Guitron told City News Service. “They were taken to the hospital, and we are collaborating with the school staff to determine the substance and the cause of their illness.”

Guitron confirmed that the students were all transported to a hospital with upset stomachs, but their condition was not deemed life-threatening.
