Discover: Moonlighting Creator Uncovers Bruce Willis’ Surprising Silence Amid Dementia Diagnosis

In February of last year, the family of the famous actor Bruce Willis announced that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This revelation came almost a year after it was revealed that he would be “stepping away” from acting due to an initial diagnosis of aphasia.

Since the announcement of Willis’s declining health in March 2022, his long-time friend and former colleague, Glenn Caron, has made efforts to visit the actor on a monthly basis. In a recent interview with The New York Post, Caron expressed his commitment to remain a part of Willis’s life and revealed that he maintains a casual relationship with Willis’s wife and three older children.

Caron reminisced about his time working with Willis on the popular drama series Moonlighting, which aired from 1985 to 1989. He described Willis as someone who had a zest for life, making it even more mind-blowing to witness his current state due to the disease.

Caron shared that during his visits, Willis still recognized him in the first few minutes, but his ability to communicate verbally and engage in activities like reading has deteriorated. Despite these challenges, Caron emphasized that Willis is still himself, although the joy and enthusiasm for life that characterized him in the past are no longer present.

Before Willis’s condition rendered him incommunicative, Caron was able to discuss with him the possibility of bringing their hit series Moonlighting back to the public’s attention. Now, for the first time ever, the full series is available for streaming on Hulu in the US.

Caron believes this means a lot to Willis. He highlighted Willis’s award-winning role in the series, which earned him an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in 1987.

Since Willis’s diagnosis, Emma Heming Willis, his wife, has been actively raising awareness about dementia on social media. She frequently hosts Instagram live chats with health experts and fellow caregivers to provide support and information.

In their joint statement with the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, Emma described frontotemporal dementia as the most common form of dementia. Bruce and Emma Heming Willis have been married since 2009 and have two young children together.
