Discover how Japanese Google Engineers have crafted the trendy Keycap Hat for Gboard

In Japan, a team of Google engineers has developed a unique and innovative wearable keyboard. Shaped like a keycap, this keyboard can be worn as a hat.

This extraordinary device features a 6-axis inertial sensor that accurately reads the positioning of the hat.

Changing the character code is as simple as turning the hat left or right, allowing the wearer to effortlessly shift characters.

To actually type the character, the wearer presses down on the hat, simulating the action of punching a key on a computer keyboard. This typing motion produces an audible click, giving the experience a realistic feel.

The keycap hat connects to devices such as mobile phones and laptops through Bluetooth technology.

In a humorous video revealing the hat, the team stated, “Aiming for the top, we’re always brainstorming for better text input. As I was racking my brains for a way to make keyboards more portable and fashionable, I had an aha moment… That’s when we developed this wearable keyboard.”

While the Gboard CAPS project is not an officially licensed Google product, the engineers at Google Japan have open-sourced it by providing assembly and usage instructions on GitHub. This means that anyone can build their own version of this fascinating keyboard hat.

Google Japan is known for its quirky sense of humor and their willingness to create bizarre contraptions. Just last year, the engineers at Google Japan created a 165-centimeter long keyboard with all the keys placed in the same row.

The Gboard Bar, another creation by Google Japan, has also been open-sourced and is available for anyone to build using the provided instructions.
