Douglas Fairbanks Jr. came from a family of Hollywood royalty, with his father being Douglas Fairbanks and stepmother Mary Pickford. He was once married to Joan Crawford and passed away in 2000 at the age of 90. For the last 49 years of his life, he was married to Mary Lee Hartford, the ex-wife of an A&P supermarket heir. However, despite his notable achievements in the film industry, Fairbanks considered his service as a lieutenant commander in the US Navy during World War II as the most meaningful years of his life.

The Beekman building, designed by George F. Pelham and originally built as a hotel in 1927, offers a range of amenities to its residents, including a doorman, concierge services, a gym, and a resident manager. The maintenance fees of $9,369 a month cover daily housekeeping and utilities.
