Discover 20 intriguing facts about Spencer Conlin, unveiled by Spectrum News

Spencer Conlin, a talented multimedia journalist, is a valuable member of the Spectrum News 1 team in Albany. Since joining in December 2019, Conlin has showcased his skills in reporting 24-hour news. Growing up in Cambridge, Washington County, Conlin has fond memories of spending time at his grandmother’s house in Easton, near his family’s dairy farm. Exploring the land and enjoying summer adventures with his cousins, as well as building snow forts and sledding in the winter, filled his childhood with joy.

Driven by his grandmother’s influence, who was an avid newspaper reader and viewer of local news, Conlin developed a passion for current events, politics, and history. This desire to delve deeper into these subjects led him to pursue a degree in broadcast journalism from SUNY Plattsburgh, after attending Hudson Valley Community College and The New School of Radio and Television in Albany.

Beyond his professional achievements, Conlin has a vibrant personal life. He has embarked on exciting journeys, including making his debut on the anchor desk and producing weekend broadcasts in Vermont. Additionally, shortly after graduating college, he embarked on a cross-country road trip with his father and settled in Montana, where he started his career as a reporter at the ABC-FOX affiliate in Bozeman. Along the journey, they stopped at breathtaking landmarks, such as Niagara Falls, the Badlands, and Mount Rushmore, while his first Montana apartment was situated in the quaint town of Manhattan.

Despite his busy schedule, Conlin finds solace in indulging in one of his favorite pastimes — camping. Every year, he embarks on an annual camping trip with his father’s large family, creating cherished memories around the campfire. One of their preferred camping sites is Tolland State Forest, located on the Otis Reservoir in Western Massachusetts.

A proud “cat dad,” Conlin couldn’t imagine his life without a pet. Reminiscing about the feeling of emptiness without a furry companion during his time in Montana, against his parents’ wishes, he adopted a kitten named Walter in Butte. Inspired by iconic figures like Walter White from “Breaking Bad” and Walter Cronkite, a broadcasting pioneer, Conlin found solace in naming his feline friend after them.

Finally, as an avid sports fan, Conlin’s productivity takes a backseat during the fall and winter seasons. With football fever running through his veins, he passionately follows the New York Giants and enjoys catching other games, often accompanied by a plate of delectable wings.
