Dion Lewis Parts Ways with UAlbany Football Program

Former NFL running back Dion Lewis, who joined the University at Albany football staff in March as a volunteer assistant coach, has departed from the program, according to head coach Greg Gattuso. Gattuso explained that Lewis had achieved what he wanted to from his time as a volunteer and both parties mutually agreed to move on. As an assistant running backs coach during spring football practice, Lewis made valuable contributions to the team. When asked about Lewis’ departure, Gattuso did not address the strip club incident directly, but mentioned that balancing coaching responsibilities and personal commitments was challenging. Gattuso initiated the conversation with Lewis and they both agreed that it was best to part ways at this time. It remains unclear what Lewis’ future plans are, but Gattuso believes that he will continue working with kids and helping others. Lewis had a successful 10-year NFL career with the Eagles, Patriots, Titans, and Giants before retiring in 2020. He has a longstanding relationship with Gattuso, dating back to their time together at the University of Pittsburgh.
