December Set for The Rust Armorer Trial

In a tragic incident on the set of the film “Rust,” where actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021, the armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering. According to a report by The New York Times, Gutierrez-Reed will face trial on December 6th, after a judge rejected a motion to dismiss the charges and instructed the attorneys to continue with the case.

The shooting occurred during a rehearsal in October 2021 in New Mexico, when Baldwin pointed a gun at Hutchins and it discharged, resulting in her death. Baldwin claims that he did not pull the trigger and is unaware of how the gun accidentally fired. In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Baldwin mentioned that someone had placed a live bullet in the gun, which was not supposed to be on set.

Prosecutors allege that Gutierrez-Reed may have been intoxicated and under the influence of alcohol and marijuana during the shooting. They further accuse her of transferring narcotics to someone else in an attempt to evade legal consequences. Gutierrez-Reed’s attorney has not yet provided a comment on these allegations.

A special prosecutor involved in the case stated that Gutierrez-Reed failed to properly check the ammunition before loading the firearms, allowing live rounds to be present on the set. The prosecutors argue that Gutierrez-Reed lacked the necessary qualifications and experience to fulfill her role as an armorer.

It is a heartbreaking incident that has brought significant attention to safety protocols on film sets. The trial will hopefully shed light on the circumstances that led to this tragic accident and the responsibilities of those involved.
