Debris Map Generated with Aid of Titan Sub Victim, Paul-Henri Nargeolet

  • RMS Titanic, Inc. has released a map showcasing the debris from the Titan submersible and its proximity to the Titanic shipwreck.
  • The sonar map provides detailed information on how close the Titan submersible was to the Titanic wreck.
  • Notably, one of the victims aboard the Titan submersible, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, contributed to the creation of this map.

In a tragic turn of events, one of the passengers who lost their lives on the Titan submersible last month played a significant role in creating a map that highlights the closeness of the shipwreck to the doomed sub.

The company that owns the rights to the Titanic shipwreck and its artifacts has recently released a seabed map as part of court documents. This map showcases the location where search crews found the remains of the lost Titan submersible.

The exploratory vessel tragically imploded during a dive to the Titanic gravesite, with five passengers onboard.

The New York Times first reported the sonar map images created by RMS Titanic, Inc. These images were filed in federal court to update the government on the company’s involvement in the search for the lost Titan.

Experts from the company have carefully annotated the map to emphasize the close proximity between the exploratory vehicle and the shipwreck it was intended to observe.

The map specifically highlights the “Titan Debris Field” located to the right of the Titanic’s imposing bow. The Coast Guard previously reported finding the Titan’s debris approximately 1,600 feet from the ship’s bow.

In a tragic twist, Paul Henri Nargeolet, a French submersible expert and renowned Titanic historian, partially developed the map. Sadly, Nargeolet lost his life onboard the Titan during his 38th dive to the shipwreck.

“Part of it was his,” stated Jessica Sanders, President of RMS Titanic, Inc., referring to Nargeolet’s contribution.

Nargeolet had worked for RMS Titanic, Inc. for two decades, leading five expeditions to the wreck and collecting over 5,000 artifacts. Some critics have labeled the company as “high-tech grave robbers” due to its activities in excavating the Titanic’s remains.

The court documents pay tribute to Nargeolet, recognizing his unparalleled knowledge of the Titanic wreck. They reveal that his participation as a guest on the OceanGate expedition was allowed because of his role as a full-time Director of Underwater Research for RMS Titanic, Inc.

The Coast Guard’s Marine Board of Investigation is currently conducting an inquiry into the events leading to the Titan submersible’s explosion. A public hearing is scheduled to take place within the next 12 to 18 months, involving entities like the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

RMS Titanic, Inc. has yet to respond to requests for comment.
