Dean Cain, the renowned actor, shares his perspective on the pros and cons of artificial intelligence (AI). In an interview with Fox News Digital, Cain acknowledges the potential benefits of AI, citing Tesla CEO Elon Musk as someone who recognizes its great uses. Although he hasn’t personally tried any AI programs, Cain expresses his interest in exploring their capabilities.
Cain muses about the possibility of using AI to aid in creative processes, stating that he would love to write a script about a man on vacation in Spain who finds love despite a language barrier, and see what the AI-generated script turns out like. The idea of AI completing such a task in a matter of seconds fascinates him.
While Cain sees the potential advantages of AI, he humorously reveals his concern about it turning into a technology-driven doomsday scenario like “The Terminator.” He jokes about not wanting to be cast as John Connor, the protagonist tasked with saving humanity from a malevolent AI.
Cain also touches upon the influence of AI in the ongoing contract negotiations between the actors’ guild, SAG-AFTRA, and producers. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) recently settled their strike, and their contract specifies guidelines for AI usage in writing. Writers cannot be undermined, and they have the freedom to use AI within company rules but cannot be compelled to utilize it.
Protecting one’s likeness from AI alteration remains a crucial factor in these negotiations for actors like Cain. He expresses both hope and skepticism towards AI technology, stating that while devices like smart houses and voice-controlled phones have their advantages, they come with their own drawbacks.
Cain concludes by emphasizing the importance of using AI for positive purposes. He hopes it can become a tool that enhances productivity and does not lead to detrimental outcomes.
Currently, Cain is starring in the soon-to-be-released film “Condition of Return” and has written two films currently in post-production.
