Daniel Radcliffe expressed his thoughts on the upcoming reboot of the “Harry Potter” series and explained why he is not interested in returning to the wizarding world.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Radcliffe stated, “My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.”
He continued, “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way.” Radcliffe, who portrayed the titular wizard in the film franchise from 2001 to 2011, added, “But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are plans for a live-action “Harry Potter” series in early development with Warner Bros. and Max (formerly known as HBO Max). However, representatives for both WB and Max denied the report at the time.
In April 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed their intention to expand the wizarding world with a TV series on their streaming service. The show is described as “a faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s novels, with Rowling herself serving as an executive producer.
Currently promoting the fourth season of “Miracle Workers,” Radcliffe inevitably faced questions about the “Harry Potter” reboot. In an interview with Access Hollywood, he mentioned that there have been no discussions about his involvement in the series.
Radcliffe explained, “There would be somebody else playing Harry, so I think it would be very weird for me to show up.” He further expressed his excitement about seeing what others would do with the franchise, comparing it to “Sherlock Holmes” and stating, “I think the ‘Potter’ series of books was always going to be bigger than one interpretation or one franchise.”
