Massive Manhunt Underway for Escaped Pennsylvania Prisoner Who Killed Ex-Girlfriend
A prisoner who recently escaped from a Pennsylvania prison is now the subject of a massive manhunt. Authorities are searching for Danelo Souza Cavalcante, a 34-year-old who was convicted of brutally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in front of her two young children in 2021. The escapee fled from the Chester County Prison, located about 30 miles west of Philadelphia, by climbing onto the roof and making his escape from there, according to law enforcement sources. The Brutal Stabbing of Deborah Brandão
Prosecutors revealed that Cavalcante’s ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandão, was fatally stabbed in front of her children on April 18, 2021. Allegedly, Cavalcante arrived at her home, grabbed her by the hair, threw her to the ground, and stabbed her 38 times. Her young children, aged 7 and 4, sought help from neighbors while Cavalcante fled the scene. The 7-year-old girl informed the police that Cavalcante had threatened to kill her as he stabbed her mother. Cavalcante was arrested hours later in Virginia, as he attempted to escape to Mexico with intentions of eventually reaching Brazil. The Schuylkill Township police arrived at the scene of the killing and found Brandão with multiple stab wounds to the chest. Despite efforts by a neighbor to save her, Brandão was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. She was only 33 years old.
A Troubled Relationship and Previous Violence
Cavalcante and Brandão, both Brazilians, had been in a relationship for about a year and a half. According to Brandão’s sister, Sarah, Cavalcante initially appeared to be a friendly neighbor, but his behavior changed over time. Brandão had mentioned to her sister that Cavalcante became increasingly jealous, particularly when he consumed alcohol. He would go through her phone and exhibit possessive behavior. Brandão sought a protection order against Cavalcante in December 2020, citing a history of assault and a previous incident where he had pulled a knife on her. The Trial and Life Sentence
In August 2023, Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime. However, the jury found him guilty, and just days later, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
