Dana Perino answers quick inquiries

Have you ever wondered what our favorite Fox personalities are like behind the scenes? We’ve been diving into their lives to give you a glimpse into who they really are. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on John Roberts, co-anchor of “America Reports” on Fox News Channel. As a senior national correspondent since 2011, John has brought his expertise and charm to the news. But let’s get to know him on a personal level.

Q: If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
JR: Quit smoking and work even harder than you already are.

Q: Many people may not know that you were born in Toronto, Canada. What do you miss most about Canada?
JR: While I don’t miss maple syrup because I can find great options in Vermont and Maine, I do miss my family and friends back in Canada. I also miss the vibrant music scene that Toronto offers.

Q: You initially wanted to study medicine before becoming a journalist. How has your medical knowledge helped you in your reporting?
JR: My medical background has allowed me to simplify complex subjects for viewers. It has also been invaluable in covering health-related issues, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Q: You’ve traveled extensively for work. How many countries have you visited? And how many states have you explored?
JR: I’ve been fortunate enough to visit over 100 countries while covering various presidencies. On the home front, I’ve set foot in every state, including North Dakota.

Q: Is there a city or country that you still want to visit?
JR: Iceland, Morocco, and South Africa are at the top of my bucket list.

Q: How do you handle technology and social media boundaries with your children?
JR: My kids have limited screen time for chatting with friends, playing games, and watching educational videos. However, they are not allowed on social media, and they don’t have their own phones. We provide one shared device when necessary.

Q: What’s the most enjoyable aspect of having twins?
JR: It’s fascinating to watch my twins develop their unique personalities and interests, despite growing up in the same environment. It’s also eye-opening to witness the differences in development between boys and girls. Of course, having twins also means double the fun and double the challenges!

Q: If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
JR: Depending on the day, my answer might change. However, after visiting Paris recently, I’m intrigued by Napoleon’s journey from obscurity to revered status in French history. I would also love to dine with Benjamin Franklin, discussing democracy and his inventions during his time in Paris.

Q: You have covered several wars throughout your career. What have these experiences taught you about life? Are you still interested in foreign affairs?
JR: Covering wars has taught me not to sweat the small stuff and to appreciate the blessings in life. It has also fostered empathy for innocent people caught in the crossfire. I’ve covered conflicts in Nicaragua, Kosovo, Iraq, and Israel, witnessing both tragedy and resilience.

Q: Share a funny story about being mistaken for Supreme Court Justice John Roberts or a phone call meant for him.
JR: Once, a call from the White House came to my phone, assuming I was Chief Justice John Roberts. Although I briefly considered playing along, I decided to do the right thing and inform them of the mistake.

Q: What’s the last song you listened to?
JR: “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake.
