July 20 (UPI) — The NFL approved the sale of the Washington Commanders to a partnership led by Josh Harris from former owners Tanya and Dan Snyder on the same day a damning report into sexual misconduct allegations levied by a former cheerleader and employee was published.

Dan Snyder has been ordered to pay $60 million to the league to resolve the investigation.

The NFL approved the $6 billion sale of the team to Harris and partners that include NBA legend Magic Johnson, as announced on Twitter. Harris, the founder of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team and the New Jersey Devils ice hockey team, expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm at a news conference.

In his statement, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell welcomed Harris and his partners, praising their business acumen, Washington ties, and their commitment to winning championships, making a positive impact on the community, and providing unforgettable experiences for fans.

The sale was approved unanimously by the league’s owners and coincided with the release of the findings from an independent investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Dan Snyder, the former owner. The investigation, led by former U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White, upheld three of the allegations made by a former cheerleader, Tiffani Johnston, and concluded that Snyder was involved in financial wrongdoing, hiding $11 million in revenues from the league.

Despite Snyder’s denial of the allegations, the NFL has required him to pay $60 million to resolve the investigation. The new owners, led by Josh Harris, aim to bring positive change both on and off the field, building a successful team, making a difference in the community, and creating memorable experiences for fans.

The sale of the Washington Commanders marks a significant milestone for the team and the NFL, with Harris and his partners poised to usher in a new era of success and accountability.
