Dan Quinn Highlights Defensive Dominance as Key to Victory: ‘Running Our Race’ Proves Crucial

A delightful sight for Cowboys fans emerged in the first half as Dak Prescott executed a read option play, gaining 18 yards on fourth down to score the team’s initial points.

This mobility continued throughout the game as Prescott led the team with 42 rushing yards, utilizing his improvisation skills to find additional yardage outside of the pocket.

“He was exceptional,” praised Brian Schottenheimer. “While it’s not something that has been absent, it definitely showcased itself more last night. He did an outstanding job of evading and finding open space. He was undoubtedly a valuable asset for us last night.”

It cannot be overstated how important Markquese Bell’s performance was on Monday night when he stepped up to fill a starting role in the middle of the field and excelled. This was particularly significant in light of Leighton Vander Esch’s injury from the previous week.

“Man, I was impressed with him,” remarked Quinn. “I sensed the speed, the physicality in his contact with the running back coming out of the backfield. I observed all of that in action.”

Similar praise goes to Damone Clark, who also had to adjust his positioning this week following Vander Esch’s injury.

“I was also pleased with Damone,” Quinn stated. “With Leighton getting hurt, Damone had to play a different position. To witness both of them step up in that role and want to be dependable is one of the greatest feelings for a player. When the pressure is on, and you deliver, it’s truly rewarding.”

It was evident after last week’s loss to San Francisco that CeeDee Lamb desired more involvement in the game, and his wish was granted on Monday night as he contributed seven receptions and 117 yards to the team’s offense.

While the results on the field were apparent for all to see after last week, Schottenheimer noted that the groundwork for Lamb’s performance was laid during practice throughout the week.

“It truly began in practice,” he revealed. “He was determined. On our Thursday practice, he showed that determination. You could see it in his mindset, and I believe there’s something significant about that. The first couple of plays, getting him involved, and he just thrives on it. I admire the passion and intensity with which he plays.”
