Aug. 11 (UPI) — Damien Williams, a seasoned running back, has recently reached an agreement to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders, as announced by his agent on Friday.
Agent Ian Greengross broke the news of the signing on Twitter this Friday morning. Williams, 31, had previously played for the Atlanta Falcons during the last season.
Hailing from the Miami Dolphins’ undrafted free agent signings in 2014, Williams was part of the championship-winning Kansas City Chiefs in 2020.
Williams joined the Falcons in March 2022 as an eight-year veteran, only to be placed on injured reserve in September and subsequently released in December. During his brief stint with the team, he had two carries for a total of two yards in a single game last season.
In 2021, Williams played for the Chicago Bears, accumulating 267 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in 12 games. His most impressive season was in 2019 with the Chiefs, where he achieved a career-high of 711 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns in 11 games.
In Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, Williams made crucial contributions to the Chiefs’ victory with 104 rushing yards, 29 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.
Throughout his first 98 NFL appearances, Williams has amassed a total of 2,606 yards from scrimmage and 25 touchdowns.
The Raiders’ running back roster includes reigning NFL rushing champion Josh Jacobs, Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah, Brandon Bolden, Brittain Brown, and Sincere McCormick. Although Jacobs was offered the franchise tag in March, he has yet to sign his tender, leading to his holdout extending into the preseason.
The Raiders will kick off their preseason against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 4 p.m. EDT in Las Vegas.
