The Coachella Valley Unified School District has organized a special backpack giveaway event to support elementary school students. A total of 700 backpacks filled with essential supplies will be distributed on Friday. Additionally, the Morongo Unified School District and the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center will also receive backpack donations in the upcoming week.
The distribution for the first set of backpacks will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday at 87-225 Church St. in Thermal. This joint initiative by the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians and the CVUSD aims to provide necessary support to the students. In a statement, CVUSD Superintendent Luis Valentino expressed gratitude, stating, “These 700 backpacks from the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians go beyond just supplies; they demonstrate their dedication to our children. A backpack can mean a lot to a student, and partnerships like this make a real difference.”
A second backpack giveaway event will be held at noon on Monday at Palm Vista Elementary School located at 74350 Baseline Road, Twentynine Palms.
Chairman Darrell Mike of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians shared his thoughts, stating, “Helping our community’s children start a new school year on the right foot is extremely important to us. We are dedicated to supporting students throughout the school year by equipping them with the necessary tools for success.”
In addition, the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms will also receive 300 backpacks filled with school supplies. The distribution will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday at 1551 Fifth St.
