Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) has cited the war in Ukraine as the reason for the delay in providing evidence to support his claim that his grandparents escaped the Holocaust. However, this claim has been contradicted by several news outlets, presenting evidenceto the contrary.
Santos, who has admitted to being a liar and narrowly avoided being expelled from the House, stated on CNN that despite genealogy records contradicting him and showing that his maternal grandparents were born in Brazil, his claim is still “true.”
When questioned about documentation, Santos explained that he spent the last 10 months compiling evidence, but the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has made it difficult to obtain the necessary information to prove his claim. Nevertheless, he expressed a determination to prove his assertion before he dies.
While Santos has previously referred to himself as a “Latino Jew,” “half Jewish,” “Jewish,” “Jew-ish,” a non-observant Jew, and a proud American Jew, he now denies ever identifying as “Jewish.”
Regarding concrete proof that his grandparents fled the Holocaust, Santos revealed that he is still working on confirming the last remaining pieces of evidence, particularly the part related to their time in Brazil, where they allegedly obtained forged documents to hide their identity.
Santos: Oh, it’s true. I spent the last ten months DNA, hiring genealogists —
Raju: Is there documentation of this?
Santos: Unfortunately, Ukraine is in the middle of a war and my grandfather came from Ukraine pic.twitter.com/Dm9t7l43Uy

Critics on social media weren’t convinced by Santos’ explanation and labeled him a “Hall of Fame liar” on X (Twitter).
“It’s in Ukraine” is less believable than “my dog ate it.”

If Santos said the sky was blue, I’d run outside to see what happened to the sky.
