Critical Update: Kaiser Health Care Workers Nearing Strike – Stay Informed!

Healthcare workers at Kaiser Permanente are poised to go on strike on Monday as the labor contract for 75,000 unionized employees has expired.

This strike, set to start on Wednesday, is expected to be the largest in U.S. history for healthcare workers.

Datosha Williams, a member of SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West, expressed concerns about patient care during the staffing crisis, stating, “Our patients are not safe and not receiving the care they deserve. Going on strike is our way of demanding Kaiser executives to address and fix this crisis.”

Kaiser spokesperson mentioned progress in negotiations and urged workers to reject the idea of striking.

The Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions has issued a warning that workers will strike from Wednesday to Friday if a deal is not reached before the current contract expires on Saturday.

In a statement, Dave Regan, president of SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West, criticized Kaiser for not adequately addressing the staffing crisis, leading to unsafe wait times for patients.

Regan stated, “Kaiser executives are refusing to acknowledge the decline in patient care and the suffering of frontline healthcare workers and patients due to the staffing crisis. To solve this crisis, Kaiser executives must negotiate with healthcare workers in good faith and take immediate action to invest in its workforce.”

Kaiser responded by stating that they have already filled over 9,700 positions this year and are actively recruiting for more healthcare professionals.
