Couple Celebrating 50 Years Together; Arrest Made in Their Murder

Police in the Boston area have apprehended a suspect and identified the victims of a triple homicide involving brutal beatings and stabbings. The victims, Gilda “Jill” D’Amore (73 years old), Bruno D’Amore (74 years old), and Lucia Arpino (97 years old), were killed in Newton. They were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and had planned to renew their vows on the day of their murder, according to WCVB. Christopher Ferguson, a 41-year-old resident of the neighborhood, has been arrested and charged with murder. The attack appears to have been a random act.

“At this time, we have not found any connection between the family members and Mr. Ferguson,” stated Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. WBUR reports that authorities matched a bloody footprint to Ferguson, who is a neighbor of the victims. Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s camera shows a shirtless and shoeless man walking with a stagger near the house early Sunday morning, and the police identified him as Ferguson. Ryan described signs of a struggle inside the house, with law enforcement recovering a knife and a bloodstained paperweight as evidence. The D’Amores were expected to renew their vows at their local Catholic Church on Sunday, but their bodies were found after they failed to appear. (Read more Boston stories.)
