County Hospital Equipment Theft: Convicted Felon Receives Justice

A convicted felon who partnered with another individual to steal computers and other equipment from Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley has been sentenced to 16 months in state prison. Pedro Marcos Perea, a 44-year-old resident of Santa Ana, pleaded guilty to grand theft as part of a negotiated agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. No charges were dismissed.

During a hearing at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Superior Court Judge Thomas Kelly approved the terms of the plea deal and imposed the agreed-upon sentence.

Perea’s co-defendant, Andrew Jack Hernandez, a 37-year-old from Fountain Valley, also admitted to the same felony count. Hernandez, who is currently out on a $10,000 bond, is scheduled to be sentenced on December 6th at the Riverside courthouse.

Sergeant Robert Martinez of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department provided details of the incident. In the early hours of June 22nd, Perea and Hernandez gained entry to an auxiliary building on the medical center campus located on Cactus Avenue. They stole various items, including laptop computers. The hospital staff discovered the break-in and immediately contacted the authorities.

Martinez stated that patrol deputies arrived shortly afterwards and conducted a search, but were unable to locate the thieves. However, detectives obtained enough evidence to identify the perpetrators within a day. On June 23rd, an arrest warrant was executed at a residence on Romneya Drive in Anaheim. Both defendants were apprehended without any complications.

The precise value of the stolen items was not disclosed, and it is unclear whether any of them were recovered during the investigation.

According to court records, Perea has previous convictions for auto theft, burglary, and theft. In contrast, Hernandez has no documented prior convictions in Riverside County.
