Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley responds to baker’s refusal of making 100 birthday cakes for exposure

Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley has responded to a bakery owner who refused to make her 100 cakes for her birthday in exchange for promotion on social media and in magazines. The bakery owner, Rebecca Severs, shared an email exchange between her bakery and a PR company representing an unidentified celebrity who requested a cake and cupcakes for a 40th birthday party. Severs criticized the unnamed celebrity for not being able to pay for the products and accused them of not supporting women. The Mail later revealed that Catherine Tyldesley was the celebrity involved, and she responded to the bakery owner’s comments on her Instagram page. In a video, Tyldesley found the situation “utterly bizarre” and suggested that Severs was seeking exposure. Tyldesley clarified that she was not working with a magazine or the PR company mentioned in the email. The email from the PR company outlined the birthday party details, including the theme and the request for one cake and 100 cupcakes. The bakery would be rewarded with promotion on social media and in OK Magazine due to the event’s guest list consisting of celebrities and industry people. Severs responded to the PR company, declining their offer due to the inability to pay her staff and cover expenses with exposure. She received support on social media for her response. The bakery has since claimed to have been threatened with legal action. Severs highlighted the issue of small businesses not earning a fair wage and expressed pride in her team and the success they have built through proper pricing and fair compensation. Another anonymous cake baker confirmed that they too turned down the opportunity to make cakes for Tyldesley’s birthday party. Tyldesley, known for her role on Coronation Street, is active on social media and frequently promotes brands and businesses. She had previously stated that she did not have plans for a 40th birthday party. NVRLND, the event management firm involved, stated that their email was misconstrued and they had contacted Three Little Birds Bakery for a collaboration.
