A San Francisco 49ers tight end has been fined nearly $14,000 by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct during the fifth week of the season. According to ESPN, George Kittle was penalized after wearing a gray T-shirt with blue lettering that said “F— Dallas” underneath his 49ers jersey during their game against the Cowboys. After the game, sources informed ESPN that the league was considering a fine for Kittle due to the “personal message” violation. The typical fine for such an offense is $10,927. However, it seems the 30-year-old player will be paying $13,659 for this first offense of unsportsmanlike conduct, according to USA Today. Kittle admitted that he was aware of the potential trouble when he decided to wear the T-shirt. “It is what it is,” he said on Thursday. “It was a decision I made. If they want to fine me, they fine me.”
Kittle also stated that he would “100%” wear the controversial T-shirt again. His coach, Kyle Shanahan, shrugged off the incident, regarding it as entertainment and WWE-style behavior. “Not really much, just smiled at it,” he added. According to NBC Sports, the 49ers and Cowboys won’t face each other again in the regular season, but there’s a possibility of meeting in the playoffs if both teams advance.
