Controversial High School Coach Resigns Amid ‘Nazi’ Play Call Controversy – Get the Inside Scoop!

An Ohio high school football coach resigns following the use of racist and antisemitic language during a game. The coach, Tim McFarland, and his team used the word “Nazi” as a play call against Beachwood High School, a Cleveland suburb with a high Jewish population. The offensive language continued until Beachwood threatened to withdraw their players. Superintendent Robert Hardis, of Beachwood City Schools, stated that the Brooklyn team no longer used the term after this incident.

However, despite this, some Brooklyn players persisted in using racial slurs against Beachwood players. As a result, McFarland handed in his resignation on Monday. Ted Caleris, the Superintendent of Brooklyn City Schools, expressed regret and stated that the school does not tolerate such hurtful speech. Caleris also mentioned that the school has reached out to the Anti-Defamation League of Ohio for guidance and support.

Beachwood City Schools Superintendent, Robert Hardis, confirmed that both school districts are in close contact and that Brooklyn has shown appropriate concern and remorse. Hardis acknowledged that this was not the first time Beachwood students experienced antisemitic and racist speech. However, he hopes that it will be the last. The statements did not mention any disciplinary action against the players involved. Antisemitism has been on the rise in the United States, according to a study by Tel Aviv University’s Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry and the US-based Anti-Defamation League. From 2021 to 2022, there was a 35% increase in antisemitic incidents.
