Consistent and Impactful: Centre Poeltl Set to Anchor Raptors Lineup

One constant in the Toronto Raptors lineup this season will be centre Jakob Poeltl.

During a pre-season press conference, new head coach Darko Rajakovic announced a heavy rotation of players through the guard and wing positions. However, Poeltl will be the mainstay at the five-spot.

Standing at seven-foot-one, Poeltl is entering his eighth NBA season and is ready for the challenge of playing with a diverse set of teammates.

“I think my experience helps me with that,” said Poeltl. “Obviously, players have unique play styles, but I can compare them to past experiences. I don’t think it’ll be a problem to pick up on those things.”

The Raptors selected Poeltl ninth overall in 2016, making him the first Austrian player in league history.

Poeltl was traded to the San Antonio Spurs before the 2018-19 season as part of a blockbuster deal for Kawhi Leonard, which ultimately led to Toronto’s 2019 NBA championship.
