Congressman George Santos at Risk of Removal This Week – Find Out Why

The possibility of expelling the serial fabricator, Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), from the House will be voted on once again after a Democratic lawmaker moved to force a vote. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) introduced a privileged resolution on Santos’ removal Tuesday, compelling the chamber to vote within two days.

Santos endured two previous attempts to oust him earlier this year. Instantly after federal prosecutors expanded the list of criminal charges against him, the House ethics committee issued a damning report. The report accused Santos of filing false reports with the Federal Election Commission and using campaign funds for personal luxuries like Botox treatments.

Mississippi Rep. Michael Guest, the Republican chair of the ethics committee, initially proposed a resolution to expel Santos. However, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-N.Y.) has previously stated that he wanted to wait for adverse ethics findings or until Santos was convicted of a crime. As per The New York Times, “dozens” of lawmakers seemed to consider the report as the last straw.

Despite remaining defiant and stating that he has no intention of resigning, Santos addressed the possibility of his House colleagues voting to remove him from office. Reportedly, Santos is expected to hold a press conference Thursday at 8 a.m. ET. On November 17, 2023, he expressed his displeasure with politics, stating, “Running for office was never a dream or goal, but when the opportunity to do so came I felt the time to serve my country now. Looking back today I know one thing, politics is indeed dirty, dirty from the very bottom up.”
