Congressional Baseball Game Ends in Attack as Staffer for Rep. Brad Finstad Held at Gunpoint

A staff member working for Rep. Brad Finstad was victimized at gunpoint just blocks away from the Capitol after the Congressional Baseball for Charity event on Wednesday evening, according to the Minnesota Republican. Finstad revealed that one of his staffers was attacked outside their residence that night, following the conclusion of the game where Democratic and Republican members of Congress, including Finstad himself, played ball.

Finstad expressed gratitude that the victim’s physical injuries were minor and that they are expected to fully recover. He also acknowledged the prompt response and attention to the incident provided by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. Specific details regarding the exact time of the incident and the injuries sustained were not disclosed by Finstad’s office. However, a police report from the DC police, obtained by CBS News on Friday night, revealed that the victim recounted being shoved to the ground by two male suspects wearing black hoodies. The suspects brandished a handgun and pointed it at the victim, who managed to escape without relinquishing any belongings to the assailants. Fortunately, no shots were fired during the altercation, as confirmed by the police.

Finstad seized the opportunity to criticize the current state of affairs in Washington, D.C., claiming that the implementation of anti-police policies and lenient approaches to crime have resulted in the creation of lawless societies that endanger the public and embolden criminal behavior. The congressman argued for the need to treat criminals as such and advocated for the reinstatement of sensible policies that effectively incarcerate repeat offenders, ensure public safety, and enable police officers to adequately protect communities and remove violent criminals from the streets.

This incident involving Finstad’s staff member is not an isolated case, as various other staffers and members have fallen victim to assault in Washington in recent months. In March, a staffer for Senator Rand Paul experienced potential brain bleeding and a punctured lung due to a stabbing attack that occurred during broad daylight. The assailant, Glynn Neal, attacked and stabbed Phil Todd outside a restaurant in northeast Washington, D.C. In February, Democratic Representative Angie Craig was assaulted in her apartment building by Kendrid Hamlin, who subsequently pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress and law enforcement officers who responded to the incident.
