Compulsory Full Vaccination Required for Ashes and Australian Open Participants to Gain Entry

When asked about the upcoming Ashes series, scheduled to start in Brisbane, Queensland on December 8, the official stated, “I don’t have control over passports or visas… but it seems highly unlikely that the Commonwealth government will allow entry to anyone who hasn’t been fully vaccinated, at least in the near future. However, this policy may change over time.”

The health order announced on Friday included a list of authorized workers, which consisted of “professional or high-performance sportspersons, as well as essential workers who support the safe operation of professional sports events” such as broadcasters.

In order to remain in their workplaces, authorized workers must receive their first vaccine dose by October 15 and their second dose by November 26.

“If you are on the authorized list and want to continue working, it is essential that you receive your first dose before October 15,” Andrews informed reporters during the announcement, which coincided with Victoria’s reporting of 1,143 new local Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Australia cricket captain Tim Paine confirmed that the Ashes series will proceed, even if England captain Joe Root refuses to travel as a protest against the strict Covid-19 quarantine measures in the host country.

Root and several other team members have expressed concerns about the tour, citing “bubble fatigue” and worries about not being able to bring their families along.

Paine stated during an interview with radio station SEN Hobart, “The Ashes will take place. The first test is scheduled for December 8, whether Joe is present or not. Ultimately, the decision will be made by the selectors, and it will be up to the individual players to decide whether to board that plane or not.

“No England player is being forced to come. That’s the beauty of the world we live in – everyone has a choice. If they don’t want to come, they don’t have to.”

Cricket Australia has been in talks with authorities to address the concerns raised by the England players.
