Compensation May Be Provided to Victims in Scam Involving DJ ASAP and His Wife’s Manipulation of Race

Marlon Moore, aka DJ ASAP, and his wife, LaShonda, made enticing promises to Black investors seeking to create long-lasting wealth. They claimed that by joining their “blessing loom” through their company “Blessings in No Time” (BINT Operations), investors could see returns as high as 800 percent. Participants were required to make an upfront payment of $1,400 or $1,425 and had the potential to receive $11,200 or $11,400 in return, which was eight times their initial investment. The investment program operated through a pyramid scheme, defrauding thousands of consumers and accumulating tens of millions of dollars. BINT also employed the tactic of affinity fraud, exploiting shared race and religion to prey on victims. In response to these illegal activities, the Texas attorney general, the Federal Trade Commission, and the state of Arkansas took legal action against the Moores. As a result, they have been ordered to pay a $10.8 million judgment and are permanently banned from engaging in any multilevel marketing businesses. The funds obtained from the judgment will be used to provide refunds to nearly 8,000 affected consumers nationwide. Although victims may not fully recover their losses, exposing fraudulent operators helps raise awareness and prevent future scams.
