Commentary: Joe Biden Plays Central Role in Hunter Probes, Governor DeSantis’ Strategy Vindicated

The Involvement of Joe Biden in Hunter Probes

Newt Gingrich from Fox News emphasizes that President Biden is at the center of the two ongoing congressional investigations regarding Hunter Biden. As authorities delve into the potential criminal activities of the Biden family and the federal efforts to shield them from scrutiny, it becomes evident that Hunter is merely Joe’s “bagman.”

Hunter’s artwork isn’t selling for exorbitant amounts because of his artistic talent, and he does not possess the ability to manipulate federal agencies to bend their rules. However, Joe wields influence, and he is not protecting his son but rather himself. Using his extensive influence, the president has orchestrated various schemes to enrich family members and allies while using Hunter as a smokescreen.

Abandoning Core Values: The Left’s Departure from Free Speech

Dennis Prager from RealClearPolitics warns that liberals are forsaking their commitment to free speech, one of the most important human freedoms. According to Pew Research, Democrats and Democratic-leaning individuals (70%) are more likely than Republicans (39%) to support government intervention to restrict false information online. Five years ago, Americans prioritized freedom of information over restrictions. Nevertheless, this increasing tolerance for government censorship from Democrats poses a serious threat to free speech, akin to tyrannies that label dissension as misinformation.

Addressing the Deficit: Potential Solutions

The US debt remains daunting, but Orland Park’s Mayor Keith Pekau argues in the Washington Examiner that it is not insurmountable. Historical data shows that during Republican control of Congress since 1963, spending rose by an average of 4.68% annually, while revenue increased by 6.25%. These rates suggest that it is possible to eliminate the deficit by 2039 and the debt by 2053. Restricting spending growth to 4% annually would allow the eradication of all debt by the end of 2047. This approach would still provide funding for social programs, the military, discretionary spending, infrastructure projects, and sustainable growth of social safety nets. However, achieving this requires a president who is willing to take a leading role and congressional representatives who demonstrate fiscal discipline.

DeSantis’ Successful COVID Strategy

The editors of The Wall Street Journal posit that progressives distort Ron DeSantis’ COVID record because they fear Donald Trump winning the GOP nomination. Despite defying the lockdown consensus and reopening Florida in spring 2020, the state’s overall age-adjusted COVID death rate during the pandemic is 13% lower than the national average and comparable to that of California. DeSantis’ strategy prevented learning loss and other long-lasting damages caused by lockdowns. Additionally, Florida experienced a 7.4% growth in employment since January 2020, surpassing California’s 2.5% growth and New York’s 1.2% decline. Progressives attempt to undermine DeSantis because they cannot admit they were wrong, along with their dislike for Trump.

Questioning Wokist Ideology on Mass Shootings

Ian Kingsbury from City Journal raises the question of the extent to which researchers discredit themselves to appease woke ideology. He critiques a recent study published in JAMA Surgery, which suggests that structural racism contributes to mass shootings. The study bases its argument on the correlation between metro-area demographics, such as out-of-wedlock birth and violent crime rates, and the occurrence of mass shootings. However, this correlation is a statistical artifact resulting from the fact that mass shootings are more likely to happen in areas with a higher concentration of black residents. Kingsbury argues that the study exemplifies the medicalization of social issues and the growing trend of public health institutions creating evidence to support their policies.
