Commanders Prevail Over Browns in Second Preseason Match

In their second preseason game, the Browns suffered a 17-15 loss to the Commanders at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

After a delay of 68 minutes due to rain and lightning, the Browns took the field with their starters, including QB Deshaun Watson. Although Watson only played for one drive, he displayed poise by leading the offense deep into the red zone. Watson completed all three pass attempts for 12 yards and rushed for 20 yards on three carries.

Unfortunately, the Browns were unable to convert on a fourth-and-goal, resulting in a drive without any points.

There were still some positive moments, such as Watson’s scrambles and a strong 18-yard run from WR Elijah Moore. Moore also caught a pass for 6 yards, but after the starters left the game, he had to leave with a rib injury, walking with trainers back to the locker room.

Moore received X-Rays in the locker room, which came back negative.

The defensive starters made an impact early by scoring the first points for the Browns with a safety caused by a holding penalty from the Commanders in the end zone. However, the Commanders responded with two touchdowns on their subsequent drives and entered halftime with a 14-2 lead. Browns safety Ronnie Hickman intercepted two passes during the game, the first one just before halftime on Commanders QB Jacoby Brissett and the second in the fourth quarter on Commanders QB Jake Fromm.

In the second half, QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson led the offense to a 46-yard field goal attempt by K Cade York, which was missed. On his second drive, Thompson-Robinson completed an 8-play, 75-yard drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass to WR David Bell. Overall, Thompson-Robinson had an impressive performance, completing 9 of 10 passes for 102 yards with a 102 passer rating and a touchdown.

The Browns had a chance to tie the game with less than 2 minutes remaining when QB Kellen Mond connected with Mike Harley Jr. for a 20-yard touchdown. However, the Browns failed to convert a 2-point conversion, resulting in an incomplete pass from Mond.

The Browns’ next game will be on Aug. 17 against the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
