Colorado Sensation Shadeur Sanders Slams Nebraska for ‘Unacceptable Disrespect’

Colorado is making waves this season and they have the receipts to back it up. After a dominant 36-14 victory over Nebraska, the Buffaloes’ quarterback Shadeur Sanders, who happens to be the son of head coach Deion Sanders, didn’t hold back when discussing his displeasure with Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule. Sanders, who had an impressive performance with 393 passing yards and two touchdowns, in addition to a rushing touchdown, expressed his frustration with Rhule’s comments about his father and the act of standing on the Colorado logo before the game.

Sanders stated, “It was extremely personal. You go out there to warm up and you see the head coach from the other team standing on the Buff. It’s one thing if a few players do it, but when the whole team does it, that’s extreme disrespect. I couldn’t tolerate that. The Buffaloes mean a lot to me, personally, and that’s what I was conveying before the game. That’s when I knew it was extreme disrespect. The coach made derogatory remarks about my father and our program. I can’t respect that kind of behavior because it’s hating on another man. All respect was lost for them and their program.”

Colorado’s center Van Wells celebrated with Sanders after a touchdown in the second half of the game, showcasing the unity within the team.

While Rhule never explicitly mentioned Deion Sanders by name during the offseason, he did make comments that seemed to indirectly criticize teams’ use of the transfer portal. Colorado heavily relied on the transfer portal to rebuild its program after a disappointing 1-11 season in 2022.

Deion’s son, who is rapidly gaining recognition as a Heisman candidate, displayed his passion and excitement through his exceptional play and exuberant celebrations throughout the game. Sanders even paid homage to his father’s iconic shuffle dance, which he famously performed during his Hall of Fame NFL career, after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Deion Sanders shared a humorous anecdote about the moment when Sanders received a penalty for removing his helmet after what he believed was a touchdown following an impressive scramble. Deion chuckled and said, “He said ‘Dad, it’s personal.’ I just bent over and laughed my butt off because that broke the tension. They really took it to heart.”

Up next, Colorado will face off against in-state rival Colorado State, and with all the excitement surrounding the team, they are sure to ride the hype train, personal rivalry or not.
