Damian Lillard’s musical choices at a Paris nightclub, with a Miami theme, were purely coincidental, according to his agent Aaron Goodwin.
The talented player from the Portland Trail Blazers enjoyed songs like Will Smith’s “Miami” and Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” which contains the lyrics, “I wanna feel the heat with somebody,” during a live video on Instagram on Friday night.
Given the ongoing speculation about Lillard’s future in Portland and the constant stream of rumors, many in the NBA community wondered if these song choices were a message to the Miami Heat.
However, Goodwin insisted that it was all just a coincidence.
“The music was just a happenstance,” said Goodwin, according to The Athletic.
“Damian is not a disrespectful person. He’s not an instigator, so he wouldn’t do anything out of character.”
Goodwin explained that Lillard is currently in Paris for a “working vacation” and that the DJ at the nightclub played the music, not Lillard himself, as reported by The Athletic.
“There was no reason for him to do that,” Goodwin continued. “That’s why he laughed in the video.
“It’s just a funny coincidence that the DJ played those songs.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Jimmy Butler posted a screenshot on his Instagram story on Saturday showing that he was listening to Lillard’s song “Money Ball,” also known as Dame D.O.L.L.A.
Lillard has spent his entire 11-season career with the Trail Blazers, but his name has been consistently mentioned in trade rumors in recent years.
The Miami Heat have often been suggested as a potential destination for Lillard, who has expressed his desire to compete for a championship sooner rather than later.
Following the trade rumors, the Trail Blazers decided to use their No. 3 overall pick in the NBA Draft to select Scoot Henderson instead of bringing in another star player to pair with Lillard.
During a recent appearance on SiriusXM, Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report mentioned that this year is “likely the most serious approach [Lillard] has taken to determining what he’s going to do.”
