One protester, known as Ian, stated that their intention was not to harm the athletes but rather draw attention to the issue of global warming and the impact of sponsorship deals on the environment. They expressed the urgency of addressing climate change to ensure a future for tennis and everyone around the world.
Despite the disruption, Gauff ultimately emerged victorious in the match and advanced to the U.S. Open final for the first time. She is set to compete against Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the final on Saturday.
