Coast Guard’s “Incredibly Complex” Search for Missing Submersible
The Coast Guard, along with other agencies, has conducted a search larger than the state of Connecticut for the missing submersible.
-
The Coast Guard has collaborated with the U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard, Air National Guard aircraft, and the Polar Prince to search over 7,600 square miles, an area larger than the state of Connecticut. Despite these efforts, no results have been found yet. The search continues with the arrival of the vessel Deep Energy, which has underwater ROV capability. They have joined forces with the Polar Prince to conduct an ROV dive at the last known position of the Titan and the approximate position of the Titanic wreck. This search is highly complex, and the unified team is tirelessly working to utilize all available assets and expertise to solve this intricate problem as quickly as possible. According to the initial report, there is approximately 40 hours of breathable air left. The search area is located 900 miles east of Cape Cod and 400 miles south of St. John’s, making the logistical deployment of assets challenging. The search involves both a surface search and a subsurface search, adding to the complexity of the operation.
