Coast Guard Discovers ‘Debris Field’ Amidst Search for Missing Titan Sub by ROV

  • The Coast Guard has reported that an underwater robot has discovered a “debris field” near the Titanic wreck site.
  • The agency stated that experts are currently evaluating the information.
  • The purpose of the robot’s mission was to search for signs of the missing Titan submersible.

The United States Coast Guard announced on Thursday that a “debris field” has been discovered in the deep depths of the North Atlantic during the extensive search for the missing tourist submersible Titanic.

An underwater robot made the remarkable find near the RMS Titanic wreck site, which rests 12,500 feet below the surface of the ocean off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

“An ROV discovered a debris field within the search area near the Titanic,” the Coast Guard posted on Twitter. “Experts within the unified command are currently evaluating the information.”

Since its reported disappearance on Sunday, search-and-rescue teams have been tirelessly searching by air, land, and sea for the missing Titan sub from OceanGate Expeditions, with five individuals on board.

The tragic unfoldment occurred during the sub’s dive to the Titanic wreck site on Sunday. Within two hours, the sub lost communication with its mothership.

The Coast Guard plans to hold a press conference later on Thursday to provide further details on the findings made by the Canadian ship Horizon Arctic’s ROV on the sea floor near the sunken passenger liner.

In an earlier tweet, the Coast Guard revealed that the Canadian vessel deployed a deep-sea ROV, which successfully reached the sea floor and initiated the search for the missing sub.
