The trial for the co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation, accused of murdering two young brothers in a Westlake Village crosswalk and fleeing the scene, has been postponed until mid-January.
The prosecution initially requested a delay in Rebecca Grossman’s trial, which was originally scheduled to begin on July 5th in a Van Nuys courtroom. However, Superior Court Judge Joseph Brandolino denied the request. Eventually, the defense agreed to the prosecution’s renewed request, leading to the trial being postponed to January 16th.
In December 2020, Grossman, who is now 60 years old, was charged with two felony counts of murder, two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and one felony count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death. These charges are related to the deaths of 11-year-old Mark Iskander and 8-year-old Jacob Iskander on September 29th, 2020.
Prosecutors allege that Grossman was driving at excessive speeds on Triunfo Canyon Road when she struck the two boys who were crossing the street with their parents in a marked crosswalk.
According to sheriff’s officials, the family was crossing the three-way intersection, which lacked a stoplight, when they heard a car approaching at high speed. The parents tried to protect their children by reaching out, but unfortunately, the two boys were too far into the intersection and got hit. Tragically, the older boy died at the scene, while the younger one passed away at the hospital.
After hitting the boys, Grossman allegedly continued driving until her car engine stopped running about a quarter-mile away from the scene. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office reported that during a conversation with a Mercedes-Benz operator after the crash, Grossman claimed ignorance about hitting anyone and mentioned that her airbag had exploded while she was driving down the road.
When a 911 operator was patched into the conversation, Grossman stated, “I don’t know what I hit,” when asked if she had hit a person.
In May 2022, Superior Court Judge Shellie Samuels ordered Grossman to stand trial, despite a defense motion to dismiss the murder charges being denied by Judge Brandolino. Grossman is married to Dr. Peter Grossman, the director of the Grossman Burn Center in West Hills and the son of A. Richard Grossman, the center’s late founder. She is also a co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation and the former publisher of Westlake Magazine.
