Client Behaviors that Guarantee I Will never Return as a Cleaner

Victoria, the founder of Pocket Rockets Cleaning Services in South Kelsey, Lincolnshire, recently shared on her TikTok @pocketrocketscleaning some of the things that annoy cleaners and will guarantee that they won’t return as clients. In a video that gained over 17,000 views, Victoria began by clarifying that she meant no offense with her comments.

One of Victoria’s biggest peeves is when clients shadow the cleaner throughout the house, displaying a lack of trust or confidence in their abilities. She finds this behavior rude, disrespectful, and annoying, and kindly asks clients not to do this.

Another annoyance for Victoria is when clients refer to cleaners in a derogatory manner, such as calling them “the help.” She highlights that it’s important to treat cleaners as equals rather than denigrating them based on their profession.

Victoria also mentions the frustration of clients walking on freshly mopped floors or using a recently cleaned kitchen, as well as asking cleaners to perform tasks that are not part of their job description. She recalls a client who requested her to oil their wooden floor, even though it was not within her expertise. Similarly, she has been asked to clean outside windows, which she believes should be left to window cleaners.

Lastly, Victoria advises clients not to ask cleaners to start a new task when they only have a few minutes left of their shift. It can be inconvenient and disrupt their schedule.

Other cleaners chimed in with their own grievances in the comments section. One cleaner shared a story about a husband who called her a maid and snapped his fingers at her, resulting in her refusal to return. Another mentioned an annoyance with clients nitpicking about minor details like a single cobweb. Yet another cleaner recounted a request from a client to help with personal caregiving tasks, including collecting a stool sample. Additionally, a cleaner mentioned a client who complained about her leaving early, despite her previous willingness to work later without charging.

Overall, it’s important to respect and treat cleaners with dignity, trust their skills, and refrain from making unreasonable requests or denigrating remarks.
